The importance of eating seasonally and sustainably...
It's summer!!! That means that all of my favorite fruits are at their peak!
Fruit is a pretty magical gift from nature. Packed with vitamins, minerals, enzymes, fiber, and the always important water, for all natural hydration, these little gems digest in about 15 minutes, which means... clean insides!!! (It also means you should usually eat fruit alone, and not after any other heavy foods.)
Eating local produce makes it super easy to eat in season. A lot of times, the fruit found in farmer's market is picked before it's ripe, and shipped from far away! Same goes for the vegetables. Ripe produce equals more nutrients!!!
Don't get me wrong, I grew up in Hawaii and love tropical fruit, so it's okay to indulge in the occasional import, but for your day to day intake, local is best, for your health, and the planet's.
Your local farmer's market is the best possible source, because if it's not in season where you live, they won't have it! That makes it super easy.
I know fruit is often discouraged, as it does contain a lot of sugar, but it's natural sugar, and contains fiber to balance it out. Also, it's way better than anything processed you may eat instead! Eat more plants!
I believe you can enjoy plenty of juicy, fresh, local fruits in moderation, just like everything else!
Shop and support local, everyone wins.
